Testimonials

Dr. William L. Rodman and Dr. Paula Holmes-Rodman  McMaster University, retired (now in Courtenay, BC):

My wife and I first met Jeff Bryce in 2007, when I was in my final months before retiring as a professor at McMaster University.  He impressed me immediately with his thorough knowledge of the pension plan at McMaster and at other Ontario universities.  In our initial meetings, he presented my wife and I with alternatives to conventional pension arrangements that were uniquely well suited to our financial situation, lifestyle, and dreams for the future.  Jeff now handles my wife’s and my entire financial portfolio, including my retirement fund from the university, estate investments, and Canadian taxes.

My wife and I admire Jeff’s dedication, competence and attention to detail.  He answers all of our questions quickly and well, and he is in regular communication with us about how best to maximize our savings.  In fact, for the past three years, Jeff has traveled on an annual basis from Ontario to our home on the West Coast.  Here, he reviews with us our financial needs and overall financial situation.  He follows up these visits with a comprehensive summary and plan of action for the coming year.  My wife and I feel that Jeff always has our best financial interest in mind and is personally interested in our well being.  Over the years, Jeff has earned our complete trust and he has given us the confidence not to worry about our financial future.  We recommend him as a full-service financial adviser in the highest terms and without reservations.

Jean & Jan Narveson  University of Waterloo, retired:

Jeff Bryce has been our financial adviser since 1994, and since the beginning we have been extremely pleased with him.   Jeff does one-on-one work with his clients and brings a calm focus to the table along with his expertise. The result is that we feel confident he will always make investment decisions that will survive the vicissitudes of the market (so far, so good!), and, importantly, he is very approachable:  if ever we have a question, Jeff is just an email or a phone call away, and he always makes time for us – as, no doubt, he does for each of his clients.

Lambert Otten, PhD, P.Eng, FCSAE  Professor Emeritus, School of Engineering, University of Guelph:

We chose Jeff to manage my pension fund payout so that in the event of my death Carolyn would continue to receive an income without having to worry about managing the pension investments.  As a long time investor I was impressed by Jeff’s knowledge and the low risk investment strategy proposed for the pension fund.  His approach is a perfect counter balance to my strategy to invest in higher risk equities. To date Jeff’s rate of return has been a very pleasant surprise.  More importantly, we have found Jeff to be a great person to work with and enjoy our meetings to review the pension fund.

Angus and Barbara Somerville  Brock University, retired:

Our decision to opt out of the Brock pension plan was not one that we took lightly, but Jeff was very helpful in explaining our options and, after careful consideration, we concluded that taking the commuted value of my pension was the right decision for us. Three years later [2016], we are still confident that we did the right thing, despite the fact that the markets have been in the doldrums recently.

We don't have the requisite financial knowledge to manage our own money, especially in turbulent times, but with Jeff as our adviser we feel confident about our financial future. He is extremely well-informed, thoroughly competent, and endlessly patient in explaining our options.

We are particularly struck by Jeff's approachability and availability. He replies to e-mails and phone-calls right away with the same clarity of expression that we find in face-to-face discussions. Jeff's outstanding ability as a communicator is a very important factor in the confidence and trust that we have in his management of our finances. His clear explanations of unfamiliar financial matters are invaluable to economic amateurs like ourselves.

We appreciate the fact that we have a personal relationship with Jeff and see him on a regular basis. Large pension funds are impersonal affairs, but we know that decisions about our investments will be made with our individual needs, goals, and preferences in mind.

Jeff is more than our financial adviser and tax accountant; he is someone we like and admire, someone whose company we always enjoy.

Joan & Steve Brown  Wilfrid Laurier University, retired:

With Jeff as our financial advisor, we believe our financial affairs are in excellent hands, and are very happy to continue the relationship.  In advising us since 1995, Jeff has been sensitive to our changing needs and circumstances, prudent and successful in developing investment strategies, and very helpful with tax and estate planning issues.  As well, he has responded to our questions and concerns quickly and competently.  What more could you ask for?

Dr. Matthew Cooper  McMaster University, retired:

I have been very pleased working with Jeff.  He is steady and reliable and keeps on top of my accounts.  I am more inclined to risk taking so Jeff has helped keep me on a more conservative course.  Jeff is always available to answer questions and to discuss options.  Above all, I have always felt that Jeff puts my interests first, which is absolutely crucial in choosing a financial advisor.

Mark Pancer  Professor Emeritus, Wilfrid Laurier University:

I retired from teaching in 2014.  At the time of my retirement, I was confronted with the choice of taking the commuted value of my pension out of the university pension fund, or leaving it in and taking my pension in a monthly allowance.  I decided to take the money out, primarily so that, in the event of my death, my wife and children would get the entire amount of money left in my investment portfolio.

My interactions with Jeff when I was making this choice were a large part of the reason I took my money out.  He provided several projections of what my investments were likely to earn, using different rates of interest and different levels of monthly withdrawal.  I could see that my income over my retirement years would be more than sufficient to meet my needs, and that a healthy amount of money would be left for my family – even if I lived to the age of 99 and beyond.

But more importantly, Jeff has shown that he is knowledgeable, caring, trustworthy and hard-working.  He explains things clearly, answers e-mails and phone calls promptly, and makes adjustments to my portfolio regularly, to ensure the maximal rate of return.  He is always on top of what is going on in the market, and sends his analysis of market trends to me regularly.

If anything were to happen to me, I am absolutely confident that Jeff would help shepherd my family through all the financial arrangements that would need to be made.  I feel that my finances and I myself are in good hands with Jeff as my financial advisor.

Catherine and John Holbrook  University of Guelph, retired:

We have looked to Jeff Bryce for financial advice since 2005.  He has proved unfailingly courteous, friendly, relaxed yet prompt, competent, and efficient.

Bob Williams  University of Waterloo, retired:

I began working with Jeff several years ago, so as I started to look seriously at early retirement Jeff developed a very helpful binder of materials that set out a number of pension options for me to consider.

We reviewed the information together and my wife and I had plenty of time to discuss the alternatives. In retrospect, the information was balanced and comprehensive. I did not feel that it was pushing me to select an option that was Jeff’s preference rather than mine.

Once I made my decision about the direction I wanted to go, Jeff was ready and willing to respond to my questions and apprehensions. The choice to step outside of a formal pension plan is not one that the majority of people are willing to take but I have not regretted walking down that path with Jeff’s sound advice.

Carl Cuneo  Professor Emeritus, McMaster University:

I have known Jeff Bryce since 2007 as an investment and retirement adviser.  In the context of a chaotic stock market, he has been a steadying influence.  Despite drastic falls in equities, he has been able to guide my investments around the goal of capital preservation.  Unlike many other investment advisers, he knows how to steer clear of risky investments and so preserve a sense of security.  Jeff is very dependable. He is easy to deal with, friendly, courteous, and prompt. He does well in presenting alternative scenarios for the future, with a good grounding in the clients’ resources, wishes, and constraints.  I have had other investment advisers. Jeff stands out in being able to preserve and grow one’s capital resources in a time of
uncertainty.  As an added bonus, Jeff is an excellent photographer, willing and able to give advice in the context of one’s photographic uncertainties.

Leslie & Ken Shiry  Kitchener:

Jeff Bryce has been our trusted financial advisor for over 20 years.  He has offered sound financial advice while respecting our desire to maintain a conservative approach regarding investment decisions.  Jeff has prepared our tax returns for several years and has provided recommendations to optimize our income tax refunds.  He has found life insurance solutions that meet our changing needs.

Jeff has been friendly, approachable and professional in all our dealings.  He meets regularly with us and is always available to answer our questions.  Jeff understands our financial goals and has kept us on track even during these challenging times.  Thanks to Jeff’s knowledgeable guidance, we are looking forward to a comfortable retirement.

Hank Davis  Professor Emeritus, Psychology Department, University of Guelph:

Jeff is reliable, personable, organized and responsive.  You can't expect him to do better than the markets, but if he could reach into his pockets to compensate his clients for market downturns, I think he'd do that too.

Donald G. Reid, Ph.D  Professor Emeritus, University of Guelph (now in London, Ontario):

Jeff Bryce provides me with the type of sound investment advice and management I have confidence in, particularly in these times of high market volatility.  Jeff’s approach is personal and one feels that the client is central in his thoughts, unlike with many larger firms.  While Jeff takes a conservative approach to his advice, he is able to develop a customized portfolio that takes into account the risk profile of individual clients.  He does not profess a one-size-fits-all approach to his advice to clients but develops a portfolio that truly fits the needs of his individual investors. The outcomes I have achieved with Jeff are extremely satisfactory and allow me to sleep at night!

Carol Ann & David Douglas  University of Guelph, retired:

Jeff has provided a high level of specialized professional services that are respectfully customized to our needs and priorities, and the changes in these over time.  He provides candid, informed and balanced assessments of issues and opportunities.  He is very careful with his client's financial resources, their security and comfort.  His responsiveness is characterized by punctuality, clarity, supportive information, friendliness and integrity.  His integrated approach to professional advice and services encompass the breadth of issues impinging on his client's welfare, from investments, tax issues, estate planning, to insurance and other matters.  A friendly personal disposition is balanced with flexibility in his response to his client's needs and priorities, and a prudent and well considered provision of advice and support.

Randy Crispo & Marilyn Bello-Crispo  Ancaster:

We have been using Jeff as our financial advisor since 1990.  He has always been responsive in a timely fashion to our questions and concerns by providing up to date information and advice that is customized to our personal situation.  He is easy to talk to and explains the complexities of the investment market in a way that is easy to understand.  We are confident that our financial needs are covered now and in the future.

Fred Eidlin  University of Guelph (and taught at several universities in Eastern Europe):

Jeff has been our financial advisor since 2010.  We are very pleased with the advice and service he has been providing.  He is easy to talk to, knowledgeable, accessible, understanding, and patient.
